In 1269, Baybars [Al-Malik al-Zahir Baybars (r. 1257-77)], having made a visit to the mosque, found the mosaics strewn and he ordered them put in place and made other repairs for more than 20,000 dinars.’  Moreover Baybars selected the medium of glass mosaic to record the works that he carried out at the sanctuary in a rectangular panel located on the south wall of the west vestibule.
