Staff at Sussex can save money by joining the Students' Union and applying for an NUS (National Union of Students) discount card.
A member of staff would have to pay £21 a year to get an NUS Extra card (£10 to join the Students' Union and £11 for the card itself), but could enjoy significant savings.
There are currently 130 discounts available to card holders, including shopping, restaurants and technology offers.
Associate members of the Students' Union can also join societies and sports clubs at Sussex.
David Cichon, President of the Students' Union, says that, by becoming associate members, staff have the opportunity to get involved with the Students' Union and save money in the coming year.
He says: "Since starting our new posts [as Students' Union officers] almost six weeks ago, we have had a series of enquiries from staff about becoming associate members and applying for NUS discount cards. We're pleased to be able to offer this opportunity and want to make clear how staff can get involved."
Here's what to do:
Step 1: Students' Union associate membership (£10)
Anyone may become an associate member of the Students' Union upon payment of the associate membership fee.
You can sign up at www.sussexstudent.com/membership. Associate members can be members (though not committee members) of sports clubs and societies. See the full list of clubs and societies available to associate members on the Students' Union's website.
Please note: Associate membership is an online membership, you are do not require a card. However, if you do wish to have an associate members card please visit the box office in the Students' Union during term time to pick one up.
Step 2: NUS Extra card (£11)
Having registered as an associate member you will then be entitled to apply for an NUS Extra card at the NUS website. Follow the application process selecting;
- 'Level of study' Professional/Vocation
- 'Course discipline' Other
Make payment and submit your application - within two weeks your card will be delivered to the Students' Union where you can collect it from the box office. Please bring your staff card with you to collect your NUS Extra card.
If you have any questions please email boxoffice@ussu.sussex.ac.uk and they will get back to you as soon as possible.
Students, who automatically become members of the Students' Union and do not need to pay for associate membership, can get an NUS Extra card for £11.
