RPC Migrating out of Poverty

Migrating out of Poverty is a new research programme consortium which builds on the work of the Development Research Centre on Migration, Globalisation and Poverty.

The main goal of Migrating out of Poverty is to provide robust data and evidence on migration drivers, impacts and policies that will contribute to improving policies affecting the lives of migrants, their communities and countries through a programme of innovative research, capacity building and policy engagement.

Migration DRC's Key Findings 'Making Migration Work for Development'

The report is a summary of six years of investigation into migration policy and practice. The Centre's findings indicate that, for migration to have its full developmental impact, the most beneficial policy change would be to reduce barriers to migration, at all levels and particularly for the poorest.

Richard Black on Channel 4 documentary 'Shorelines' talking about African migration

Luke Seomore and Joseph Bull directed the 3 Minute Wonder series in 2008 called 'Shorelines', which explores migration across the Atlantic from the coast of West Africa to the Canary Islands. Through image, text and sound they portray the confusing realities surrounding such journeys for the migrants and others involved. Richard Black was interviewed for one of the short films and offers an explanation of the wider context of such movements.
